1.
Birds fall from ash filled skies And the world you know will tell you lies And you will tell them too Won't you? Hear the laughter A child's heart Is what we're after As we try to start To paint this pale room Mildewed roof That comes crashing down.... On you Saying so long (On you) To truth (On you) We seek (On you) We're lost (On you) In the colors (On you) Of the palette (On you) (We See) And life won't wait And our youth will fade And the hearts we break Will be remade and beautiful As the colors that we paint this room Are bright and full In this pale room we wait In this pale room we paint In this pale room we hate In this pale room we are
2.
You Were 03:45
We weep as we stare in the mirror Who is this? What is this? You'll say It's you in all your ugly splendor You should know that you will not win Piece by piece we shuffle through the puzzle Meat is meat Life is life They'll say Be wary of what the preacher's selling You will grow You'll grow from your pain You were You were You were You were You were the beauty of yesterdays You were the tyrant as well as slave You were a radiant fast decay You were You were You were the peak of true energy You were obedient lethargy You were your life's own effigy You were You were You were You were You were You Memories take the shapes of paintings Different colors appear in different ways The eyes of family and distant lovers Are filled with tears and they wish you stayed
3.
Own your Faith and crime Tears will fall My eyes dry Hearts beat Slow and Fast When you're close My hands act Born weak Skin so dry Sickly blood God's last lie God's last lie Your Church Steals from eyes God's own truth Beneath blue skies Clouds break Sun shines through A saving grace Is found in you Is found in you Oh my God You're my God You're my love You're my light

Review from New Noise Magazine:

Troy Bennett’s Graveyard Lips create expressive music like no other you’ll hear this week. Detailing the daily internal struggle of being human, the emotive music dives into a mysterious realm. Released June 24th, the ‘Pale Room‘ demo features the mastermind behind the music Troy Bennett on guitars, bass and vocals alongside a string of exceptional musicians.

‘Pale Room‘ begins with a sinister approach to an introduction before blossoming into a shoegaze inspired indie-rock arrangement. Featuring AJ Martinez on drums, the track is warm welcome into the mind of Troy Bennett.

‘You Were‘ features a melancholic soundscape fusing mellow indie with a subtle nudge towards dream-pop in the mix too. A captivating outlook into having empathy in an increasingly apathetic world. With additional vocals and viola from Marisa Kaye Janke, the soothing melody feels like the calm during the current storm over the world.

‘Y(Our) Church‘ enters with a stunning vocal performance that holds your gaze throughout.

Recorded, mixed, and mastered by James Whitten at Hightower Recording, New Orleans, LA, the debut demo from Troy Bennett’s Graveyard Lips is a breathtaking release.
