Review from Stereo Stickman:

Driving with an engaging balance between thoughtful, emotive lyricism, and the raw, indie finish of a home made performance, Troy Bennett’s Graveyard Lips offer an immersive and melancholic yet hypnotic new single in the form of Leap Year.

Featuring delicate vocals, with a notably unique tone and edge – likely to be easily recognisable throughout releases – Leap Year also brings in the gentle yet relentless strum of an acoustic guitar, and a few additional layers like electric guitar and vocal accompaniments to inject further warmth as the song rounds up and resolves.

An intriguing topic, familiar to all but seemingly personal in intention – a trait that rings true in the passionate delivery and clear connection between artist and song.

There are multiple repeats of ideas, lyrics, moments, and these build and build before resolving once again. During this process, the song proves increasingly hypnotic, emotional to listen to, and dreamlike to lose yourself within.

Things soon progress from good to great on the songwriting front, ultimately resulting in a realm that feels partly pop-rock inspired and partly of the Elliott Smith-esque contemplative writing style. Really nicely done.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Ya know, ya know you miss it so
The day that doesn't know it is not there
It's how you feel, it's how ya heal
You won't get any answers without tears

Four more years of, four more years of rain (oh no)
Four more years of no more birthday cake (o woah o woah)
Four more years of, four more years of rain (oh no)
Four more years of no more birthday cake

Another day, a wedding cake
A anniversary missed because he calendar says
Another meal through shades of teal
The birthday candles are missing once again
The presents wrapped
Do friendships last?
Blindly laughing staring at the end

Four more years of, four more years of rain (oh no)
Four more years of no more birthday cake (o woah o woah)
Four more years of, four more years of rain (oh no)
Four more years of no more birthday cake

It'll be okay it's just another day
Blow up some ant hills
Get drunk in a mall and dismay
It'll be okay it's just another day
Blow up some ant hills
Get drunk in a mall and dismay
It'll be okay it's just another day
Blow up some ant hills
Get drunk in a mall
Get drunk in a mall
Get drunk in a mall and dismay (oh)

Four more years of, four more years of rain (oh no) (Four more years of rain)
Four more years of no more birthday cake (o woah o woah) (Four more years of rain)
Four more years of, four more years of rain (oh no) (Four more years of rain)
Four more years of no more birthday cake (Four more years of rain)
Four more years of, four more years of rain
